April 21, 2005 William C. "Bill" Mettler Sr., 60, of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, formerly of Sherburne and Franklin, NY, died Thursday. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, NY. LAKE RONKONKOMA — William C. "Bill" Mettler Sr., 60, of First Street, formerly of Sherburne and Franklin, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home.
Born on May 10, 1944, in Sherburne, he was a son of Russell and Neva Puller Dewey and was a graduate of Sherburne Central School.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam conflict, and a member of the American Legion posts in Sherburne, Norwich and Franklin.
Bill was a heavy-equipment operator at the South Shore Boat Yard on Long Island for many years.
He had previously been married to the former Joyce Wilcox.
Surviving is his companion, Norma Savage; his mother, Neva Dewey of Sherburne; five sons, Bill (Beth) Mettler of Morrisville, Kenny (Julie) Mettler of Walton, Donny Mettler of Sherburne, Billy Joe (Julie) of Davenport, and Brian (Amanda) Mettler of Blanchester, Ohio; a daughter, Nicole Bennett of Bainbridge; a stepdaughter, Rhiannon Savage of Lake Ronkonkoma; three sisters, Janice (David) Bassett of Smyrna, Margaret (Charles) Hubbell of Clinton and Katherine (William) Johnson of Sherburne; a brother, Gene (Marlene) Mettler of Kent, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A companion and the mother of two of his children, Beverly Carmen, predeceased him in 1979.
